METHODOLOGY FOR COORDINATING HETEROGENEOUS INDUSTRIAL ROBOTS AND OTHERS PERIPHERAL DEVICES IN PRODUCTION SYSTEM

Abstract

The integration of heterogeneous industrial robots and peripheral devices in modern production systems introduces challenges related to interoperability, synchronization of operations and unified process control. This paper presents a methodology for coordinating industrial robots from different manufacturers together with additional technological devices within a single robotic workstation. The proposed approach is based on a PLC-centric control architecture enabling centralized coordination of technological operations and structured exchange of control and status signals between devices using industrial communication networks. The methodology defines system architecture, communication principles and a signal-based coordination model for synchronization of robotic and technological operations. The concept is demonstrated on a robotic workstation integrating ABB and KUKA robots, a vision inspection system, a conveyor and pneumatic devices. In addition, a digital shadow of the robotic workstation is implemented using OPC UA communication via PLC and connected with a virtual model in Tecnomatix Process Simulate for monitoring of selected process data.
